What is the retina?

The retina is the seeing part of the eye. It perceives light and sends an electical (nerve) signal to the brain. When the retina is unable to function normally, vision is lost. Vision lost in this way cannot be improved with glasses as it is analogous to damage to the film inside a camera.  With the use of state of the art imaging and diagnostic tests, we can determine the cause of many retinal diseases and treat them appropriately by either medical or surgical means.
